Some would say that there are few places better to spend the summer than on Mallorca, the island that truly comes alive for those 4 months of the year. As the nights get longer and the days get warmer the tourists flock to the island like birds flying south for winter and the whole island transforms. With so many things to do such as gentle hikes through breathtaking nature, endless beach days on one of the many stunning coves or beaches dotted around the coastline, shopping in some of the finest stores on the beautiful streets of Palma to relaxing in the Mallorcan countryside in one of the historic mansions like the Son Julia Country House & Spa in Llucmajor. Here at Son Julia we wanted to give you an unforgettable summer experience and that is why we have recommended some of those less well-known and alternative ways to enjoy a summer evening on Mallorca.

Every summer one of the most picturesque pop-up cinemas is erected in the famous Parc de la Mar opposite the imposing Palma Cathedral. This year the Cine a la Fresca project celebrates its 31st birthday and in doing so it will be showing a wide variety of family friendly movies throughout the month of August until the 10th of September. It is not often that you can sit out of a night time, under the stars and enjoy a great movie on the big screen and best of all….it’s free! So enjoy an evening that you won’t find at home and bring your popcorn.

What better this summer than enjoying the nature that Mallorca has to offer and one of the most spectacular is undoubtedly watching the sun set over the warm blue Mediterranean horizon. To the west of our boutique hotel in Llucmajor we recommend a visit to the quaint seaside town of Sant Elm, perhaps best known as the place to catch the boat over to the island of Dragonera (a small island that sits off the West coast of Mallorca and is a great destination for a day trip). But here one can experience some of the most spectacular sunsets while enjoying a delicious paella at one of the fine beach front restaurants.

Something we don’t always get to do at home is to enjoy good food, good company and great music all in one place but here at the entrance to the stunning beaches of Es Trenc and Ses Covettes you can find just that. S’embat is an authentic and unique experience in the form of an open air bar that attracts not only the locals but people from all over the world, with a unique and cool style you can enjoy the home cooked, hearty meals or just savour one of the delicious cocktails and drinks. Most nights of the week you can find here a range of live performers which creates a wonderful atmosphere and makes the perfect memorable summer experience. Located just 30 minutes from Son Julia Hotel, we can even organise your visit

A summer on Mallorca wouldn’t be complete without a great accommodation and somewhere that offers its guests unique experiences is Son Julia. Our 5-star, 15th century mansion which was visited this month by the King of Spain himself Felipe VI, offers not only luxurious suites which will ensure an enjoyable stay but also many ways to spend your precious evenings on this island. So once you have returned from your day out at one of Mallorca’s incredible beaches, spend your evenings on our Las Bovedas restaurant terrace and enjoy live music sessions every Thursday until the middle of September, accompanied by the gourmet cuisine of one of the island’s top restaurants.
