The new year has already brought much excitement and reason to celebrate to everyone on the island of Mallorca, from the obligatory New Year’s celebrations to the local ‘fiestas’ of Sant Antoni and Sant Sebastia, which have taken place across the island. However for the team of professionals at the Son Julia Country House & Spa we still await the biggest celebration and although much preparation has taken place, we have to wait one more month. On the 16th of March we will open our doors once again and welcome our dear guests back to our restored 15th century mansion. Over the last few months a host of changes have been taking place at our Boutique Hotel in Llucmajor to offer you an even better experience. So book your stay now and see what luxurious surprises await you.

As we said our team have been working tirelessly to ensure that our 5-star Boutique Hotel exceeds your expectations and the changes and renovations made offer you a more complete holiday experience. These changes, new for 2018 include the addition of 4 new luxury rooms towards the rear of the building. These elegant and spacious rooms measure 50m2 and their vast terraces of 35m2 in size are the perfect place for you to put your feet up under that warm Mediterranean sunlight. However it is not just these 4 rooms that offer something new, each one of our 29 luxury rooms has been freshly painted and fitted with 100mb fiber optic broadband and the televisions have been replaced by the latest state of the art Samsung models for you to enjoy. Furthermore the Superior and Superior Garden rooms have been fitted with new carpets so you feel as special as you really are.

Among the changes to each of the opulent suites and living spaces we have also worked tirelessly to improve our Spa facilities, which have now been redesigned with a new stylish decor, the updated and improved indoor pool now has a new heat pump and as well as the Turkish bath and Jacuzzi there are new therapies to help you de-stress during your island getaway. In the grounds of the hotel we are also excited to have planted 100 olive oil trees of a local variety, which we intend to use to produce our very own delicious olive which will be served and be available for purchase at the hotel.

Carnival Mallorca

So as we wait eagerly for the grand reopening and all the changes you can expect at our 5-star hotel on Mallorca, let us prepare ourselves by celebrating one of the biggest events that will take place this month on Mallorca and internationally, with the return of the famous Carnaval, in which the towns and cities of Mallorca come alive with music, fancy dress and traditional food.

The festivities take place from the 8th of February when the crazy King Carnestoltes arrives at the city and declares that its citizens should let loose and enjoy a few days of partying. From that precise moment dancing, celebration and fancy dress fill the streets in the form of a parade which travels through the old town and shows off exactly how the Mallorcans celebrate this world famous festival.

It all comes to an end with the rather unique tradition called the burial of the sardine, which involves a procession that parodies that of a funeral procession and culminates in the burial of a symbolic figure, which is usually represented as a sardine. This is celebrated on Ash Wednesday and marks the farewell to life’s pleasures and the arrival of Lent.

So although we wait with baited breath for our grand reopening, here at the Son Julia Country House & Spa we are always ready to celebrate and there are always countless reasons to visit Mallorca and a host of things to experience on the island. Book your 2018 holiday and let’s celebrate together.
