Gastronomy in Majorca

Spain has always had a very important connection to the long-standing tradition of quality food and fine dining. There are a number of dishes and flavours synonymous with the country and culture and Majorca is no different. Although only separated from the mainland by a small channel of the Mediterranean, this island although possessing many Spanish traditions, also proudly boasts its own culture and that includes a number of dishes and flavours that are unique to this the largest of the Balearic islands. Here at Son Julia Country House & Spa we offer not only a wonderful luxury accommodation experience but also take enormous pride in our cuisine which has been undergoing enhancements during the low season along with all the other changes at Son Julia.

Our boutique hotel in Llucmajor offers guests the complete experience with an elegant and creative cuisine featuring affordable gourmet dishes at the hotel’s Las Bovedas restaurant. This is one of the top restaurants in Majorca where guests and visitors can enjoy delicious mixtures of local flavours that take inspiration from both Eastern and Western foods all carefully prepared by chef Roberto Diez, who started his career and his culinary destiny as a military cook and rapidly developed into the top chef he is today. With all the changes taking place at the hotel, his successful team at the restaurant and Roberto himself have put their heads together to create an inspired new menu featuring a host of new flavours and dishes ready for your delectation. Why not check out the latest version of our menu below.

This restaurant which was recommended in the Michelin Guide isn’t the only place to enjoy delicious food at Son Julia; during the summer months lunch is served at the Apaganto Bistro next to the largest of our swimming pools. Here you can put your feet up and enjoy the mediterranean climate from the comfort of your sunbed while we bring you a variety of dishes and snacks. If you needed another reason to look forward to summer, then get ready to enjoy our very own live music on the restaurant terrace from June until mid September, because it’s the little things that will make your holiday in Majorca unforgettable.

Roberto Diez makes clear that one of the things that sets his style apart from many restaurants on the island is his desire to personally purchase fresh, seasonal, Mediterranean products straight from the market and then use those quality ingredients to fuse various cultures together, which you can see in our varied and extensive menu. Here at Son Julia we have taken this use of local produce to the next level by planting 100 olive trees of the local Arabequina and Picual varieties, which we intend to use to produce our very own olive oil, because Roberto believes that “A good olive oil is one of the 5 most important ingredients” when it comes to cooking. As well as the olive oil we are also proud of our own Son Julia white Chapren wine. With Majorca rapidly becoming a well known area for wine production this light, fruity wine is made from autochthonous Prensal Blanc and Chardonnay grapes and is grown here in our very own vineyard. It is part of the new and updated wine list, which means you can try it with one of our mouth-watering dishes at our wonderful restaurant.

We know that a truly memorable holiday requires everything to be perfect and here at Son Julia Country House & Spa we aim to offer guests exactly that! when you book your next holiday in Majorca make sure you don’t miss out on the Son Julia’s delicious experience of textures, aromas and tastes and try one of Roberto’s personal top 3 dishes to order from the menu which include: the Red Tuna Tataki with Mediterranean sauces of fennel, orange and olives or the slow cooked delectable Mallorquin leg of lamb with gravy and to finish treat yourself to the scrumptious apple tart with a vanilla sauce and lemon thyme ice cream.
