We know how important it is to have those special memories to keep, whether it be with photos, sharing stories with friends or special souvenirs that conjure up memories of the best moments from our trips and adventures. There is no doubt that a holiday in Majorca will be an adventure you will want to remember forever and here at Son Julia Country House & Spa you can not only expect the highest quality accommodation on the island of Majorca but also we offer you our travel tips and recommendations and this month we provide you with a list of 7 souvenirs from Majorca that you must bring home with you, whether as a present for a loved one or simply as a reminder of your experience at this luxurious boutique hotel in Llucmajor.

Ropa de Lengua

You may not have noticed it but look carefully and you will find this traditional pattern throughout the city. Locally called ropa de lengua (roba de llengos in Catalan) and generally translated as ‘Majorcan tongue’ this beautiful textile can be used to create anything and everything from bags to pillowcases. Make sure you get your hands on a few of the many different patterns and take home the mediterranean style.

Ensaimada

You will see plenty of large hexagonal boxes being carried through Palma airport and even throughout town, within these you will find the most traditional Majorcan cuisine in the form of the Ensaimada. This spiral shaped pastry comes in many sizes and with lots of different fillings and toppings, from sobrasada to a chocolate spread. During your stay at our boutique hotel in Llucmajor why not gorge yourself on these delicious delicacies and also take a few home with you because the holiday doesn’t have to end when you leave our 5-star hotel.

Flor de Sal

Sprinkle some magic on your holiday by staying at Son Julia Country House & Spa and sprinkle the flavour of Majorca on your dishes thanks to the famous Flor de Sal which comes in many different flavours and is cultivated in the beautiful area of Es Trenc, one of the best beaches in Majorca.

Sobrasada

A little less appetizing to look at, this local delicacy is another staple of the Majorcan diet. This sausage made from pork meat and fat, paprika, salt and spices is a deliciously rich treat which can be enjoyed in traditional pastries, in sandwiches or with quelitas, those salted olive oil crackers made here on the island. This traditional food can also be brought home and keeps fresh long enough to introduce to friends and family.

Siurells de fang

These simple figurines were what previous generations used to play with instead of the latest videogame or smartphone. The Siurells de fang are small white clay figures which are coloured with splashes of red and green and were originally used as whistles, although they were also believed to chase away evil spirits. The place to buy these little decorations is most definitely the town of Marratxi, so bring home something a little different with a little piece of Majorcan tradition.

Leather

Renowned throughout the world, Inca is a town in the centre of Majorca not far from our boutique hotel in Llucmajor, which is known for its production of leather products. Ever heard of Camper, Farrutx, Lotusse or Yanko? All these companies hail from this inconspicuous small town, meaning it is the perfect place to visit when looking to buy a new bag, shoes or a quality souvenir at a reasonable price. Here you will even find a footwear and leather museum, for those feeling in the mood for culture.

Avarques or Menorquinas

The final item on our list is one for those fashion forward visitors wanting to get their hands on the ‘must have’ footwear for the summer holiday. Whether you are at the beach, enjoying a coffee in a square or out for an evening dinner, these traditional shoes were made famous in Menorca but have become popular throughout the Balearic Islands. Pick up a pair or two of these super comfy sandals, which can be found in a whole host of colours, textures and sizes making them the perfect souvenir to suit every taste.

Menorquinas

Whatever souvenir you decide to bring home with you, the most important thing is that you enjoy a holiday to remember and here at Son Julia Country House and Spa we aim to ensure just that. So book your island getaway today and leave some space in that suitcase for a souvenir or two.
